Former Yellow Wiggle takes on life-saving new neighbourhood mission

Article image for Former Yellow Wiggle takes on life-saving new neighbourhood mission

A former member of the Wiggles is calling on Australians to team up with their neighbours to purchase automated external defibrillators for their area.

The Heart of the Nation initiative aims to get an AED within 200 metres of all homes.

Greg Page, who suffered a heart attack while performing in a Wiggles reunion show, is leading the initiative.

“It’s all about creating more of the right places at the right time for more people,” he told Liam Bartlett.

“What we know about residential areas is that there’s not many AEDs available in residential areas.

“And given that 80 percent of cardiac arrests happen in the homes, we need to make sure people have access to them rapidly.”

Treatment with an AED within the first three to five minutes after suffering cardiac arrest increases survival rates by up to five times.
