Consumer goods company Unilever, behind Dove toiletries, Rexona, Continental and Streets, has announced it will test a four-day working week in Australia.

Five-hundred staff will be a part of the trial, kicking off on November 14.

Head of Curtin’s School of Management and Marketing, Professor Julia Richardson told Oly on Perth Live many organisations around the world have been doing this for a while now.

“It’s a really interesting opportunity because what it says to us is they’re looking at doing things differently…” said Richardson.

“But the bottom line is… most organisations will be making sure [they’re] still meeting KPIs and performance indicators.”

The change will mean workers keep 100 per cent of their pay while cutting their hours to 80 per cent, provided they maintain 100 per cent productivity.

“We do have to be careful when were cramming it into four days to ensure we do maintain our health and wellbeing, because that workload intensity can have some problematic outcomes,” said Richardson.
