The State Government’s 10,000 “Wander out Yonder” vouchers were snapped up within minutes this morning.

West Australians could register for a $100 voucher to go towards the cost of a WA tourism experience.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia told Oliver Peterson it’s good news for operators around the state.

“Tourism is going incredibly well.

“Wander out yonder is working and people are going out to the regions like never before.”

Mr Papalia said the purpose of the vouchers was to get West Aussie to consider tours they may not have thought of before.

“What we know though is there’s some tour operators and niche experiences that West Australians may not have been thinking about.

“This is just designed to draw their attention to that.”

In other tourism news, the 2020 WA Gourmet Escape has been cancelled. The event attracts world-renowned chefs and nearly 150,000 visitors.

In a statement, the event director says the pandemic has made it too difficult for this year’s Escape to go ahead but plans are underway for the 2021 event.
