Gary Adshead slams ‘serious’ breaches in Perth Mint compliance

6PR Morning‘s Gary Adshead has levelled strong criticism at Treasurer Bill Johnston and Perth Mint chairman Sam Walsh’s statements on the Perth Mint fiasco as the State Government attempts to downplay apparent issues in compliance and communication.
Mr Johnston and Mr Walsh fronted media on Tuesday to address the issues associated with the mint’s doping of gold bars sold to China, as well as alleged failures in compliance with international guidelines on gold trading.
“The board of the mint – which over the years has included government treasury officials – never thought it had a responsibility as a multi-billion dollar gold-trading, money-remitting and cash-transacting institution, to consider anti-money laundering and terrorism finance compliance,” Adshead said.
