WA Premier Roger Cook has declared amnesty for anyone who finds themselves in violation of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act following ongoing public outcry.

Nine News reporter Erin Harwood told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings the laws will still come into effect on Saturday, but there will be a 12-month “educational period”.

“What that means is that for the first 12 months rather than prosecuting people, they will instead plan to inform and educated people on what the right and wrong thing to do is,” Ms Harwood said.
