Government working off ‘false economy’ in ‘tone deaf’ overseas nurse intake

The WA branch of the Australian Nurses’ Federation has blasted Amber-Jade Sanderson and the State Government over a “junket” to attract Indian nurses and doctors on the basis there’s plenty of staff looking for work already.

ANU WA president Janet Reah told Gary Adshead she was flabbergasted by the news the Health Minister would be travelling to India to “full gaps” in WA’s overstretched medical staffing.

“It’s tone deaf; I’d say they didn’t read the room, but I don’t think they even bothered to try and read the room,” Ms Reah said.

This government looks at the gross profit margins and then decide to cut staff. It’s a false economy they are working off.”
