Here’s a lost-and-found story with a chain of events that will leave you shaking your head.

Mark Dittmar was playing football in South Australia and came to Margaret River with a mate for a fishing trip with their friend, former West Coast player David Hynes.

“We were there fishing at Redgate and the boys weren’t catching much,” he told Steve Mills on Millsy at Midday.

“I’ve seen a skippy in this rock pool so I’ve dived in, grabbed the skippy and my hand got wedged in this rock and, when I came out, I came out with the fish but no wedding ring.”

Mark replaced the wedding ring and eventually moved to Margaret River with his wife Kerryn 10 years later but, in a rare moment of lightning striking twice, lost the new ring too.

This week the gods smiled on him, when his original ring was found by eagle-eyed, 14-year-old Georgia while she was snorkelling in the area.

“I saw the ring sticking out, I thought it was the top of a bottle or something, so I pulled it out and realised it was a ring, and started freaking out,” she said.

Georgia showed her mum and they noticed an inscription on the ring, so took a photo of it and posted the discovery to a community Facebook page.

“Then Mark and Kerryn sent us a message verifying their wedding date, which was on the ring,” she said.
