A groundbreaking treatment study into Alzheimer’s disease has shown how the drug Donanemab can slow the progression of the disease.

The drug is not yet available in prescription form, but patients can receive regular infusions.

Curtin University and Dementia Australia chair Associate Professor Blossom Stephan told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the drug targets one of the key neurodegenerative changes seen in Alzheimer’s patients.

“It’s really exciting; it’s the highest level [of success] that’s been recorded in this type of treatment,” Professor Stephan said.
