As the Sydney Opera House donned the colours of the Israeli flag last night, hundreds gathered on its steps to celebrate the massacre of civilians.

The deep rift created by the resurgence of conflict in the Middle East has lead certain groups to draw battle lines, causing major concerns within Australia.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles Oliver Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live he’s appalled by the actions of the protesters and suggested future anti-Israel protests should not go ahead.

“I think people should not be going ahead with protests of this kind. This was an act of terror conducted by an organisation which is listed as a terrorist organisation by the Australian government,” Mr Marles said.

“What we saw on the weekend was an act of terrorism, which was not wrought upon combatants. It was wrought upon innocent people, people who were attending a music festival.”

Nine News reporter Jack Hahn told Gary Adshead on 6PR MorningsĀ the chants heard are a stark contrast to the Australian Government’s condemnation of the weekend’s violence.

“The PM made an impassioned plea for people to not rally, but clearly that was ignored,” Mr Hahn said.
