Growing opposition against offshore wind farm proposal in Bunbury region

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy is proposing an offshore wind farm in the Indian Ocean, spanning 7674 km2 between Dawesville and Cape Naturaliste.

The proposal states the Bunbury region is well suited with skilled workers, a high demand for electricity and strong consistent winds.

Member for Canning Andrew Hastie has made a submission against the proposal. He told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live there are many reasons this should not go ahead, effects on fishing stock, wildlife concerns, tourism reasons and national security.

“I’m concerned about Australians and the cost of living. I want this country to be productive and competitive and for this we need reliable affordable base load power, this wind farm will not deliver that, it will deliver instead very costly and unreliable power,” Mr Hastie said.
