Gun laws ‘would not have prevented’ Floreat tragedy: Papalia
The question of whether or not the State Government’s proposed gun laws could have prevented last weekend’s tragic double murder-suicide is a moot point but more evidence that current laws are inadequate, Police Minister Paul Papalia has told Gary Adshead.
Mr Papalia has pointed out the timing of the legislation, though, and said the Premier has asked him to see if it is worth making the thresholds for gun ownership even more stringent.
“Everyone should understand, we are not rushing this in; it has been debated for more than two years,” he said.
