Following the dismissal of the defamation case launched by Ben Roberts-Smith against Nine newspapers, Chris Masters, investigative journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald, spoke to Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings.

Mr Masters broke down what led to the investigation into Roberts-Smith and said soldiers began to open up to him about a couple of things after spending time in Afghanistan.

“It got to the point where I questioned Roberts-Smith about a few matters – not about war crimes – but back in 2017, when I was writing a book, he got very angry with me and also angry with some of the soldiers, and he kind of lawyered up, so what happened is he basically brought it on, I still feel to this day that if he hadn’t behaved like someone with something to hide, this might not have proceeded,” he said.
