Health insurers profiting billions while hospitals struggle
While health insurers collectively made $2 billion in profit last year, the payments made to hospitals are not being passed on.
CEO of Day Hospitals Australia Jane Griffiths told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “I think the funding model needs to be changed, and the overnights should get the appropriate funding…We’re not necessarily asking for the same funding; we are asking for fair funding for the most cost effective part of the healthcare sector.
“There’s a lot of power in the market with the large corporate, but I still think they’re not treating any of the private sector well…There is something wrong somewhere.
“The last thing you want to see is large closures of private hospitals or day hospitals, which will put added pressure on the public sector,” Ms Griffiths continued.
