A new blood test could soon deem you as ‘healthy fat’ after concerns surrounding the accuracy of the body mass index (BMI) as a measure of health were raised.

Some people who measure as healthy on the outdated scheme can be metabolically unhealthy and those who are placed in the overweight range can be in perfect condition.

Head of the Systems Biology Domain at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Professor Peter Meikle told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR’s Afternoons that BMI doesn’t tell the whole story about why people develop diseases.
