Heritage-listed Fremantle Bridge set to be demolished
A new traffic bridge in Fremantle will bring realignment of the Canning Highway and create a new gateway into the port city.
Parts of the Fremantle community aren’t keen on the build, with some wanting the original heritage-listed bridge retained.
John Dowson from the Fremantle Historical Society told Liam Bartlett that they have support from the community but not from the Heritage Council.
“We’ve got almost 10,000 people signed the petition already,” he said.

“The bridge is important, and we’ve got the idea of repurposing the bridge; it’s not a new idea.”
