Ozempic, a drug medication used to treat type 2 diabetes is in short supply after non-diabetics like influencers and celebrities have touted its weight-loss benefits on social media.

Professor Steve Robson, Australian Medical Association President told 6PR Mornings host Gary Adshead, that there has been major demand worldwide for the drug, causing issues with supply.

“There is some evidence that it works in assisting with weight loss so people are going to their doctors around the world, asking for Ozempic as an aid to weight loss,” Professor Robson said.

“We are seeing stories in the media and circulating material on social media where it’s being touted by influencers as the way that they keep a ripped and shredded body – it is not appropriate.”
