How 500-gamer Brett Rosebury became an umpiring inspiration
Brett Rosebury is a man of milestones. Growing up in Armadale, he became the youngest ever WAFL umpire at 17 years old, as well as the youngest ever AFL umpire at 20.
This weekend, he brings his devotion to the craft full-circle as he umpires his 500th AFL match.
On this week’s Backstories on 6PR, Julie-anne Sprague talkes to the men that has set the standard in a role that’s often maligned.
“I was always, I’d guess you’d call it into leadership-type stuff; school captain, that sort of thing,” Mr Rosebury said.

Through it all, Brett has maintained an influential level of humility and devotion to the craft.
“I think everyone else has been focusing on these game numbers a lot more than myself,” Mr Rosebury said.
“I just love going out there each week… it’s super challenging and it’s different every week.
“You get tested and challenged in so many different ways every weekend, and that’s what I really love about it.”
