How a mid-life crisis led to an unveiling of the work of great women
Finding herself at a “moment of peak wifedom” six years ago, Anna Funder says she could have dealt with the inevitable mid-life crisis through “yoga, or something really healthy.”
Instead, she found George Orwell.
As Ms Funder described to Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons, poring through Orwell’s works lead her to discover not only the impact of one woman in particular on Orwell’s success, but also the undeniable energy women bring to the world, even if it’s often overshadowed.
“I think it’s a really fundamental thing, and I fell the repercussions of it today; I feel there’s a massive disproportion in the amount of unpaid and unseen work that women do,” Ms Funder said.
