How off is too off? Use-by dates set to change
Used by dates could soon be a thing of the past, as governments attempt to cut down on rampant food waste.
UK retailer Marks & Spencer recently removed use-by dates from their milk and have replaced them with best-before dates in a move which mirrors other British stores.
Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre project leader Lukas Parker told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast research shows consumers are often confused by the difference between ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates.
“‘Best before’ is about quality, meaning the food is at it’s often quality but we know that things past their best before date are still edible,” Mr Parker said.
