Moving into aged care is a big decision and approaching conversations about it with loved ones isn’t easy.

“I think one of the things that many of us make the mistake of doing is actually thinking that we’re their parents not the other way round. And I think part of the solution is actually giving people — our elders — the respect,” he told Gary Adshead.

Mr How says a short-term respite stay in aged care can also help loved ones to feel comfortable with the idea of living in aged care permanently.

He says many people find the experience is “a lot different” to what they’re expecting.
