How we could solve the rough sleeping crisis
With the rapidly rising numbers of people sleeping on the streets, local councils are some of many institutions looking for solutions.
Churchill Scholarship recipient Leanne Mitchell has taken it upon herself to visit councils in Canada, the US and UK in an effort to work out a potentially successful response to rough sleeping.
“It’s a really difficult one because the money is held by the state and federal governments, but the problem is on the streets,” Ms Mitchell said.
“You can’t really ignore it when it’s happening there and communities are actually looking to councils to do something about it. I think that councils need to take responsibility.”
