Aircraft and rescue services are scouring the Pacific Ocean after an Australian man went overboard from a cruise ship, 1,400 kilometres south of Hawaii.

The Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas left Brisbane two weeks ago, and the US Navy is now also being asked to help with an amber alert  issued for all vessels nearby.

Australian Traveller co-founder Quentin Long told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast there are detailed response plans in place for when someone falls overboard.

“The hardest thing is when they disappear overnight… that becomes really problematic,” Mr Long said.
