Human trafficking on the rise across the country
Human trafficking numbers in Australia are worryingly on the rise, with the Australian Federal Police reporting increased numbers of forced marriages, sexual exploitation and forced labour.
However Police are encouraged by the higher rates in reporting of serious trafficking crimes, which reflect more awareness from the public.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Kurt Wesche told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings investigators were utilising developed methods to prevent human trafficking, including victim-centered approaches.
“There definitely can be some cultural issues that we come across in these investigations, and we need to be understanding and sensitivity with that,” Det Supt Wesche said.
