An Australian infectious diseases physician has backed comments made by former New South Wales Liberal premier Dominic Perrottet that Covid-19 vaccine mandates were a ‘mistake’.

Perrottet told parliament in his final speech yesterday that people’s personal choices about getting vaccinated for Covid-19 “shouldn’t have cost them their jobs”.

“I don’t think vaccine mandates were a good idea because at the end of the day the vaccines were less effective on transmissions than originally thought,” Infectious diseases physician Peter Collignon told 6PR Mornings host Gary Adshead.
