Police are calling for calm in Broome after charging a man with aggravated assault for allegedly restraining three young Aboriginal children with cable ties.

Officers attended a home in Cable Beach yesterday afternoon, to investigate claims of trespassing; when they arrived, they found a 6 year old girl and 7 year old boy tied up in a driveway.

A 45 year-old man is accused of holding them captive along with an 8 year old boy, who managed to get free before police arrived.

WA Police Regional Commander Rod Wilde told Gary Adshead on 6PR MorningsĀ despite the fact that the children were trespassing, tying up children with cable ties is not an action supported by police.
