Australia won the toss and sent in the Indian team fresh from a dominating performance on Australia Day.

The opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma raced to 97 before Dhawan (42) was caught playing a reverse sweep to Chris Lynn at backward point.  An enormous roar brought Virat Kohli, the destroyer from Adelaide,  down the race onto the MCG.  Kohli (59 not out) appears effortless in his ability to give himself room at the crease.  Damien Fleming noting ‘he can confidently execute from anywhere.’  

The breakthrough came as Rohit Sharma (60) missed the call of no from Kohli due to the noise of the crowd resulting in a run out.  MS Dhoni (14) contributed in a flurry to bring the innings to 184.

The Australian bowling attack provided more questions for World Cup selectors than answers.  Scott Boland’s first 3 overs were solid, leaking runs only in the 4th.   Opening the attack, Shane Watson impressed and Andrew Tye’s international debut yielded figures of 4 overs, 1 for 28.

Aaron Finch muscled his way, determined to even the ledger.  The openers looked in control until Finch was  dropped on consecutive deliveries and Shaun Marsh (23) was out next ball.  Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell followed closely behind as Australia lost 3/7 in 12 deliveries.  

Shane Watson (15) out to terrific caught and bowled by Ravindra Jadeja that surprised Watson and saved Blocker Wilson.  Losing partners, Aaron Finch (74), was run out, unable to stretch to the line due to an injured hamstring.

An unusual stumping saw the end of James Faulkner (10). Australia had crumbled again, losing 6/43.  India, able to squeeze the Australians into playing poor shots, won the match by 27 runs securing the series victory with one match remaining.
