The government has introduced legislation to the parliament which will reduce payouts for injured motorists, and boost profits for the insurer and state government.

Injury lawyers have serious concerns about the effects these changes will have on injured people.

Blumers Principal Solicitor and State President of The Australian Lawyers Alliance Ian Murray told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the legislation is aimed at compensation scammers, but could open up a wide range of issues.

“I think the excuse they’re using is they’re targeting what are colloquially known as claims harvesters; but added on to thatg they’ve included a raft of measures that have the effect of driving down payouts for legitimately injured people,” Mr Murray said.
