The Federal Government as of the start of next year will put a cap on the number of international students allowed into the country in an attempt to combat the housing crisis.

International Education Association of Australia CEO Phil Honeywood told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live they are trying to focus on certain courses that do not add to the Australian economy such as business degrees but will most likely continue to take nurses and other health care workers.

“These young people are not migrants, 80% of them go home, 20% that get to stay here tend to be doing the jobs that Australians don’t want to do like aged care and nursing. It’s kind of a bit weird that we’re counting these temporary international students as migration anyways,” Mr Honeywood said.
