The McGowan Government announced on Wednesday that eligible Australian nurses and midwives will receive a pay rise between 3% and 4.5%, including an additional 0.5% in superannuation, and a bonus of $3,0o0 cost of living payment.

However, is this offer enough to satisfy the Australian Nursing Federation’s requests?

Janet Reah, Australian Nursing Federation State Secretary told Jamie Burnett, filling in for Oliver Peterson, that this is a sensible step towards fulfilling their interests.

“It’s a backdown, they said we wouldn’t get the $3000, the 3% and, the ratio until we signed the EBA and well, the EBA still isn’t signed and they’ve still given us the money and the ratios, and in that way it’s a win for nurses,” Ms Reah said.

“We are still waiting for information on the government to inform our counter offer, it’s a two way street.”
