Article image for Are COVID welfare payments fuelling Northbridge violence?

After the Police Minister’s assertion that coronavirus welfare payments are fuelling violence on the streets of Northbridge, Mornings has taken a closer look and found publicans and nightclub owners are putting the problems down to a range of issues.

6PR Mornings executive producer Shane Douglas told Gareth Parker owners he’d spoken to said COVID restrictions were leading to frustration for patrons who were seeing long lines outside clubs and few patrons leaving venues.

He also said there was a belief that revelers were concerned restrictions would come back to WA so people are making use of their freedom.
