If you’re struggling to reach 10,000 steps a day, there’s some good news for you.

The latest science suggests fewer daily steps may be the sweet spot for many of us, depending on our age, fitness and health goals.

Tony Blazevich, a professor of biomechanics at Edith Cowan University told 6PR Afternoons the original mentality has been around for half a century.

“The story is it came from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics… ten-thousand in the Japanese character looks like a person walking.”
