The Australian Financial Complaints Authority has noted a sharp rise in the number of complaints against insurance companies, banks and scams.

Last year there was over 100,000 claims with 8,500 in WA alone.

Australian Financial Complaints Authority Chief Ombudsman and CEO David Locke told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live these sectors need to do a great deal better in being able to handle peoples claims, rather than a cookie cutter approach.

“A lot of the matters that are coming to us, people really are at the end of their tether with delays and they just do not know what’s going on…in the mean time your life can be on hold,” Mr Locke said.
