The small, coastal town of Kalbarri is pushing back against a planned green hydrogen production plant nearby, with some locals saying it will destroy the region’s natural beauty and serenity.

However experts are urging locals to take a step back and understand the necessity of the project, as well as the glut of misinformation available.

Curtin University Sustainable Engineering Group Associate Professor Liam Wagner told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons many of the objections voiced by those against the Kalbarri Green Hydrogen project are simply wrong.

“We are already one of the world’s largest energy exporters… I think we are not only in a unique opportunity to maintain our position, but to be a superpower in the energy future,” Professor Wagner said.
