Kings Park fire: arson squad search for answers amid destruction

Article image for Kings Park fire: arson squad search for answers amid destruction

Arson Squad detectives are on the hunt for any information detailing how and why five separate spot fires ignited in Kings Park yesterday.

The park has been re-opened to the public, but firefighters and emergency services are continuing to clean up the destruction.
6PR reporter Anne Barclay told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast the fires appear to have had multiple ignition points.

“As the sun rises over the trees, the damage caused by yesterday’s bushfires is laid bare large patches of the grounds have been left charred and smoking,” Ms Barclay said.

DFES incident controller Michael Dellaposta told Millsy and Karl it is particularly difficult to control fires in Kings Park.

“Due to the heavy fuel loads and sensitivity of flora and fauna, we have to stick pretty much only to the tracks,” Mr Dellaposta said.
