Like drug addicts: Social media in school ruining attention and respect for teachers

Social media use in schools is continually a hot topic, with one teacher likening a lot of kids to zombies or drug addicts.

Former teacher and Cybernetic Shield Education Director Jean Yates told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live it is making it harder for educators as kids have less respect for education, believing social media has all the answers.

“They’re either exhausted because they’ve been on social media all night or they are over stimulated because it’s deliberately designed to be addictive, so they need everything to be at that fast pace,” Yates said.

She noted that children should be taught “phone etiquette,” rather than banning them completely.
