Investigations are under way after the tragic crash of a Cessna seaplane just off the coast of Rottnest Island.

6PR’s Chrissy Morrissy spoke to several sources to get an overview of the events before and after the incident.

Angus Mitchell, Chief Commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, is the specialist investigator of the incident and spoke to Chrissy as he boarded the plane to the crash site.
“Our priority now will be really looking at the wreckage itself and starting to piece together the sequence of events,” said Angus.

Nine reporter Jamie Freestone was on the scene, speaking to locals who witnessed the crash.
“There’s been a lot of praise yesterday afternoon and this morning for the boaties, civilian people who were already out on the water, who raced to the scene and helped rescue some of those survivors,” he said.

Lorraine MacGillvray, an aviation consultant and training officer, discusses her concerns around the rise in fatal light aircraft crashes.
“We need to be looking after the grassroots of our industry,” she said.
