With Cyclone Zelia imminent, Perth Today host Simon Beaumont spoke to locals about the preparations being made.

Simon interviewed Jon Hall from Hedland Buses, which is picking up people from remote communities to get them to safety.

“Every road out of Hedland is now impassable—you can’t get through them,” said Jon.

He then asked Port Hedland local tugboat driver Mick Clithero how offshore operations and the community are managing the impending cyclone.

“They said the wind gusts are close to about 300 km per hour near the middle. It’s hard to tell—when that kind of wind starts blowing, anything could be damaged,” he said.
