Lord Mayor backs $24m boost to tackle homelessness

A hundred properties will be acquired to house rough sleepers in Perth and surrounds, as part of a $24 million package announced by the state government.

Rough sleepers will be removed from the street and placed directly into the ‘permanent’ public housing, skipping the sometimes years-long waiting list altogether.

But Homelessness Minister John Carey says although the housing-first approach works around the world, “intensive wrap-around support with access to services” was required.

Perth Lord Mayor says the City of Perth is pleased to work with Minister Carey to assist and support, particularly around the delivery of services in Moore Street, the Safe Perth City Initiative and the very valued City of Perth Safe Night Space.
