Major grocers face the music as price-gouging inquiry gets green light
Right on time, Coles, Woolworths and other national supermarket chains are about to go under the microscope as a parliamentary inquiry into price-setting gears up.
The Greens – who put the inquiry forward to Parliament – say it’s aimed at “dismantling” the duopoly created by the country’s two biggest supermarkets.
National Farmers’ Federation President Tony Maher told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast most consumers still don’t understand the growing gap between on-farm and in0supermarket costs.
“Some of these things have little processing done to them – they’re put in a punnet and put on a shelf, it doesn’t make sense that some stores would charge so much,” Mr Maher said.
