A Boyup Brook man has been considered lucky to keep his eyesight after he managed to lodge a nail in his eyeball doing home renovations.

Stefan Giersberg was not wearing safety glasses while using a nail gun to attach a frame to a window.

The 35mm brad nail ricocheted off the metal frame before becoming stuck in his eye.

After a trip to the hospital, Mr Giersberg told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings he would advise everyone doing home renovations or DIY to wear protective gear.

“Take PPE seriously,” Mr Giersberg said.

“It may go fine for ten years or 20 years, but it takes a fraction of a second to go wrong and really, really, badly wrong, very, very quickly.”
