A marine heatwave causing mass fish kills in the state’s north is moving south.

Operations Lead at Recfishwest Matt Gillett told Simon Beaumont on 6PR’s Perth Today, “Over the next few months, we are going to see that hot water move down the coast and we do have our radar on places like Ningaloo, Shark Bay and some of those nearshore habitats that we’ve seen impacted in the past.’

Gillett continued, “It’s not like we have to sit on our hands and just wait for these events to continue to happen.”

“We can actually put some things in place now that we think will build resilience for the environment towards the future.”
