A rumour to the John Hughes Hyundai Rumour File has been confirmed by the Public Transport Authority (PTA). Little Birdy told the rumour file a Metronet worker, on his first day on the project, was instructed by fellow workers to cut a live 600-volt power cable with a reciprocating saw. Fortunately, the new employee survived the incident. However, the level crossing boom gates at Cale Street, next to St John of God Hospital, were offline for five hours, causing widespread traffic chaos.

A PTA spokesperson confirmed that a conduit was cut near the Cale Street level crossing, and an internal review was initiated immediately. Work within the rail corridor has been paused since Monday.
