Research into the effects microplastics are having on our bodies continues to uncover more and more insidious processes, but the latest might have more wide-ranging implications than thought possible.

University of Melbourne Associate Professor Mark Green specialises in reproductive biology, and has studied how microplastics have the ability to alter our body’s hormones.

He told Chrissy Morrissy onĀ 6PR Afternoons amongst the approximately 90,000 chemicals brought into our environment via microplastics, about 1,500 mimic or block natural hormones and their effects.

“Unfortunately, Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals are found in many products actually found in our household,” Professor Green said.
