Migration boom fuels housing crisis: More arrivals than new home builds
Overseas migration is a major contributing factor to Australia’s housing crisis, with arrivals outnumbering new home builds by four times.
Shadow Housing Minister Michael Sukkar told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “Record high migration being dialled up by the Albanese Government and record low numbers of homes being built is a really bad recipe.”
“Where does it end? Well, it can only end in tears if the Labor Government continues to run this level of migration. They have no policies to help the housing market, no policies to get more homes built and I fear that the data tells us if we’ve got a housing crisis now, it’s only getting worse.”
“I support migration but it’s got to be planned migration, and you’ve got to know where the people are going to live and we can’t have a migration program that leaves Australians worse off, reduces our quality of life, and means the next generation of Australians can’t aspire to home ownership,” Minister Sukkar said.
