Millsy feels the heat in Australia’s hottest town

DAY 3: After a brief motoring scare just an hour after signing off from another successful broadcast of Millsy at Midday, this time from Roeburne, anyone would forgive Steve Mills for wanting to hide under a tree until his pride returned.
But there’s no stopping this old fella.
He got back on the horse, almost literally, returning to one of his old haunting grounds, the Marble Bay Racetrack, the scene of one of Millsy’s old race calling gigs back in 1957 (ok, we just made the year up, but you know what we mean).
Millsy hamming it up with Langtree Copping, Marble Bar’s unofficial mayor.
Millsy is on a radio road trip with all the trimmings accompanied by his lovely wife Tricia in a luxury Jayco Outback Journey caravan, broadcasting each day for five weeks from some of the state’s most remote and renowned destinations.
Thankfully Tricia is on hand to capture all the action behind the scenes, and snaps of Steve with his guests, such as the unofficial mayor of Marble Bay, Langtree Copping OAM, who must go down as one of the most casually-dressed mayors on the planet.
Copping told Mills from the magnificent broadcast venue The Ironclad Hotel he’d done it all in the district of Marble Bay, Australia’s hottest town with an average temperature of 41.6 degrees in December.
From councillor to station owner and now the owner of the caravan park, Millsy’s chat with Copping is one for the ages, including his tip on how to stay cool.
“Get under a tree,” Copping replies with a hearty laugh.

Millsy also had a chat on site with Brian Higgins from the Marble Bar Nursing Post, who told him some titillating tales about what life is like in the town and working running the nursing post there.
“I’m the first contact for anyone with health problems, we look after emergencies and then we look after the routine needs of people with chronic health disease, arrange their medicines and blood tests,” he said.
A welcoming sign if you want to escape Australia’s hottest town.
Millsy also spoke with Delijla, the Ironclad Hotel manager, about how she got to Marble Bay.
“I had a friend up here that worked up here and decided I’d have enough of down Perth, so yeah, I’ve been here about a year now,” she told Mills.
“We get lots of people coming through who used to work here in the 70s and 80s, it’s great, it’s a nice little community.
