Millsy slips into his shorts after crossing the NT border
LONG WAY TO THE TOP : Tour blog – Timber Creek
DAY 10: A sunny start to a beautiful Wednesday in WA’s stunning North West ushered two monumental moments of Steve Mills’ Long Way to the Top road trip.
Afte an epic 10 days on the road, cruising some of WA’s most remote and remarkable towns and sites with partner Trish in the luxurious un-Millsy like Jayco Outback Journey, the pair successfully reached the WA-NT border, driving into the Northern Territory for a live broadcast from the top end’s Timber Creek Hotel.
Then the watershed moment occurred: Millsy slipped into his broadcast shorts for the first time on tour, subscribing to the ‘sun’s out, legs out’ Aussie way of life.
While Millsy was broadcasting live from the Timber Creek Hotel, partner Trish was busy avoiding the saltwater crocodiles (below) that inhabit the creek, just metres from where their Jayco caravan had set up shop during the show.
Millsy’s first day in the NT saw him welcomed to the region by Nicole Manison, the territory’s Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister.
Timber Creek Hotel owner Fiona McDonald (above) joined Steve to chat about the town’s community and characters, before he was joined by one of them – Bazza, the curator at the Timber Creek Police Station Museum.
Bazza considers himself more of a stuffed exhibit than a museum curator but, as Millsy was quick to discover, he’s a font of knowledge on Timber Creek.
“I have some friends up and they say why do you talk about the negative all the time, and I said well I can’t talk about the positive cos it wasn’t the truth,” Bazza said about Timber Creek’s history and treatment of Indigenous people in the town.

Bazza predicted big things for Timber Creek in coming years, with millions of dollars being spent by the Australian Army on its Bradshaw Field Training Facility.
“Timber Creek is going to be very big in the next five to 10 years,” he said.
Chief District Ranger at the spectacular Nitmiluk National Park, Jaco Venter, then joined Steve for a chat about the cultural experiences in the region.

The broadcast is part of Millsy’s Long Way to the Top tour, which sees him broadcast from a different location each day as he travels through WA’s beautiful North West, towing a luxurious Jayco Outback Journey that he and partner Tricia will call home for five weeks.
We’ve also got him sending great BTS footage you can see on our socials. What could go wrong? Well, plenty it seems.
