‘Miracle’ methane-slashing pill for cows hits the market
A ‘miracle pill’ that stops cattle from burping and farting has gone on sale after years in development.
The pill, made from seaweed-based materials, will help slash greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector.
The pill can cut cows’ methane emissions by up to 90 per cent.
Mission director at the CSIRO’s Towards Net Zero, Dr Michael Battaglia, told Gareth Parker that the pill might also help livestock grow more quickly.
“About ten years ago, CSIRO worked with Meat and Livestock Australia and James Cook University and discovered an amazing seaweed that reduces methane in livestock,” Dr Battaglia said on 6PR Breakfast.
“They don’t need much; they only need a handful of seaweed a day,
“There’s a range of ways that we can deliver it to cows.”
