NASA scientists have recently visited the stromatolite formations in the Pilbara – known as possibly the oldest existing evidence of biogenic life on Earth – to give context to their studies of similar formations on Mars.

NASA Mars Exploration Program Director Eric Ianson told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings the Pilbara provides one of the most fascinating areas of study for both the history of Earth and other planets.
