New Airport train line causes uproar as Fremantle ‘overlooked’ as end destination

Fremantle Chamber of Commerce CEO, Danicia Quinlan is arguing that the tourist hub of Fremantle was overlooked as a worthwhile addition to Perth’s new Airport train line.

She told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that this is the latest addition on the list of “near sighted” decisions which have damaged the city’s economy.

“I think it’s part of a bigger picture, in addition to terminating at Claremont which as you know is a little crazy considering we’re one of the top destinations in the world now. It’s also that we’ve missed out on the Southern corridor as far as the metro link goes,” Ms Quinlan said.

“The Claremont opportunity may be lost, but I think it’s a really great conversation to start to have around that Southern corridor and making sure that we are connecting up our industries and that it’s on the agenda.”

Fremantle was listed as one of the Top 50 travel destinations by Time Magazine in 2022.

“Fremantle sits so well in the hearts of most international tourists that do come to WA, especially from Asia and Europe they have such a connection to Fremantle, I don’t think it’ll make a big impact. I just think it’s our ability to move people through easily and efficiently. And as Fremantle grows and that Southern corridor grows we just need to start thinking about it now.”
