New eco-friendly wine bottles prove a winner for Coles liquor outlets
Liquor retailing businesses operated by Coles Group expect more wine brands will shift to flatter bottles made from recycled PET plastic after a robust first two weeks of trade.
Accolade, owned by private equity giant Carlyle Group, and family-owned Taylors Wines, are at the forefront of the push in Australia.
The company has sold a Hardy’s wine using the flatter bottles in Europe for two years, and has a Banrock Station wine in the new packaging for $17, while Taylors has a One Small Step wine for the same price.
The new products are being sold in 95 First Choice and 80 Liquorland stores across Australia in the first two weeks, and will be expanded further.
Accolade Wines managing director Jack Glover spoke to Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills about the company’s change of direction.
